Seismic Discipleship: How To Transform Lives and Empower Others, by Tina Toschi

Reviewed by Peter Cheyne

It is remarkable how much practical wisdom and advice Tina has packed into this little book. In only about 60 pages plus six short appendices she starts with a definition of discipleship and a reminder that disciple-making is primarily relational, surveys how Jesus made disciples and then how we can. She describes how to start the relationship. She has a chapter on listening, one on balancing grace and truth and one on accountability. The appendices include a spiritual health test, comments on being intentional at making disciples in the church, some accountability questions and a guide to spiritual journaling.

Variety is maintained by the inclusion of questions, highlighted Bible passages, quotes and, most usefully, testimonies from people who have been mentored and who themselves are mentoring others.

Anyone wanting to be an effective disciple-maker will want to read more extensively than this book but this one is an extremely good start and will get you a long way down the road.
