A review is currently underway of the policy and processes for receiving ministers from other denominations (including those overseas). The Council of Assembly has agreed that in the interests of the Church and the applicants themselves, applications for reception will not be accepted by the Personnel Work Group until the completion of the review at the next General Assembly (30 September – 3 October 2010). This decision is effective immediately.
This does not affect parishes wishing to call ministers of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, the Christian Churches of New Zealand or the Uniting Church in Australia, as these ministers are already recognised by the Presbyterian Church under mutuality of ministry agreements. Nor does it affect the ability of parishes to call ministers of other denominations under supply, secondment or exchange arrangements.
Ministers already going through the applications process are not affected by this decision.
