Director, Presbyterian Church Schools’ Resource Office

We are pleased to announce that Carolyn Kelly has been appointed to the newly formed position of Director of the Presbyterian Church Schools’ Resource Office. The position was advertised last year in the Education Gazette, Candour and Bush Telegraph.

Carolyn is a qualified teacher who served from 1998 to 2000 as Chaplain and Director of Religious Education at St Oran’s College in Wellington. Her husband Mark Johnston is a Presbyterian minister, currently serving as the Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership’s Auckland Coordinator. Carolyn has a Master of Arts (Hons) through Auckland University, a Bachelor of Divinity through Otago University and a PhD in Theology and English Literature through the University of Aberdeen. We believe that Carolyn is eminently qualified for this position and has the experience and personal attributes to build good working relationships with Principals, Chaplains, religious educators and Boards. She will commence her employment on the 1st of February 2011. She will work from an office at St Kentigern School for Girls – Corran in Auckland.

Challenge and Change

In 1975 there was Grace and Truth, a centennial history of the Theological Hall, Knox College. Now there is Challenge and Change, which tells the story of the final 20 years of the Theological Hall, the 10 years of the School of Ministry, and the birth of the Knox Centre for Ministry and Leadership. This well researched and finely written book by the Rev Dr Simon Rae will be launched on Tuesday the 14th of June, 2011, at 5 p.m. in the Nichol Room of the Hewitson Building, Knox College. You are warmly invited to attend. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at $30 (or $35 after 20 June; email the Registrar for an order form) and purchasers will also have the option of receiving a complimentary copy of Grace and Truth.

Associated with the book launch will be the unveiling of a new painting of the College by Dave Baab. This superb watercolour painting depicts the College from the Arden Street side, where the Hewitson Building is magnificently displayed. Prints (unframed) will be available for purchase at $50. For catering purposes, please email the Registrar by Friday 10 June if you are able to attend this special event.
