Think Global @ Easter

I started my ministry working amongst the teenagers of a Parish in a place called Amanzimtoti on the south coast of the province of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. It is famous for having had the most shark attacks in the world at the local beach. 13 at the last count I think. We used hold an annual Easter Camp. It was a really big event for us – held at a fantastic youth camp site called Living Waters.

As will always be he case – and every Youth Leaders nightmare when you put 80 teenagers together – camp romances start up on the bus on the way there. We used to call them Easter Bunnies and I would spend the 4 nights on patrol to ensure that nobody got pregnant. Funny that really when Easter is all about an expression of free love. Maybe I should have been encouraging the free flow of love. Not dispensing free condoms you understand but talking more about making love in the world just as Jesus did. Love that is free and knows no bounds. That is what GlobalTrek is all about.

Lots of 'Love' (!)
Andrew

"Going where no kiwi Presbyterian has gone before"

The slogan says it all. GlobalTrek is something new. GlobalTrek is a gathering of kiwi Presbyterians to listen, learn, discuss and debate the latest trends in mission. GlobalTrek is all about discovering who we have been, who we are and who we are becoming as kiwi Presbyterians living in the context of a ‘global village’. It is about hearing the Gospel call to mission in our modern day. This will mean discussing everything from mission theology to the threat of AIDS. From Third World debt to global warming. From Christ’s call to be peace-makers to our relationship with the Council for World Mission.

The weekends are aimed at being practical, useful, inspiring. A good mix of international and local speakers will equip you for mission work that begins in the local Parish and extends across the globe. If you want to be challenged and changed in the midst of worship, reflection, good food and great company – then GlobalTrek is for you.
